Smashing school fair planned

Tractor rides, pony rides, non-stop entertainment, cake stalls and games – it must be Puketaha School’s Spring Fair.

Pony rides at an earlier fair.

Also planned for the day is a monster garage sale, craft and food stalls, raffles and… Smash-a-Car.

That’s right, Smash-a-Car.  Committee member Sarah Avery says this will involve a Nissan, minus glass, which people can pay to smash with sledgehammers.

“The kids love it and I suspect a few adults will take pleasure in being able to ‘vent’ on the car.”

In addition there will be a cake decorating competition for blokes.  “Anyone can bake the cake, but only a male can ice it.  Then visitors get to vote for their favourite cake and the best cake decorator is crowned ‘Iceman.  The cakes are then raffled as well.”

Kids can sit in a feed wagon and be towed around the field, take a ride on a pony or take part in a talent show and wearable arts show to be run through the day.

Each classroom is responsible for holding an event or stall at the fair and all children will make crafts, grow seeds and the like.

“Our senior children (Years 7 & 8) do a business enterprise where they create fair type games or food stalls which they have to plan and create budgets for as part of their classroom learning leading up to the fair.

“It is always a fabulous event with a great atmosphere and all money raised will help the school. Friends and families can catch up and experience a good ole country spring fair,  rain, hail or shine – hopefully not the rain or hail!  All we need is you.”

So come along to Puketaha School’s Spring Fair.   It will be a smash!
