Te Radar to host Gordonton charity quiz and auction

Sharpen your general knowledge and prepare for a night of fun – all for a good cause – at the Gordonton Hall next week.

Comedian and TV personality Te Radar will MC at the Waikato Hauraki Coromandel Rural Support Trust’s first-ever Quiz and Charity Auction.

“The winning team will receive a gift pack and a $400 voucher donated by Rabobank,” says WHC trust coordinator Wanda Leadbeater.

Some of the auction items include tickets to the ASB classic and accommodation in Auckland, fishing trips, accommodation at Cooks Beach, five nights at Lake Rototiti, toy tractors, gardening packs, clothing, GoKarting experiences, and farming products and services.

Supper will be provided, and there will be a cash bar, raffles and spot prizes.  She said the Trust wanted to make the night as much fun as possible – “We know a lot of our rural communities have not had the best year so we thought it would be great to get an MC/Quiz Master who was very funny and entertaining, however like all of our team, they needed to understand rural people and farming. Te Radar seemed the perfect choice and he has an understanding of the Rural Support Trust.”

All money raised will go back into supporting rural people and communities.

The Rural Support Trust is a not-for-profit organisation that offers free support to rural communities and people when times become overwhelming, she said.

“This could be personal, environmental and/or financial difficulties. Our team are made up of rural people who have experienced the challenges of rural living and working. During adverse events we play a major part in advocating, supporting and working with the rural sector.

“All our events are held in rural communities and we try and move around our region as much as possible. The Gordonton community is relatively central to a lot of our industry partners and to many of our facilitators.”

There are 14 trusts throughout New Zealand; the Waikato Hauraki Coromandel Trust has been operating for about 14 years.

Events and initiatives for next year are now being planned. “Communities can also contact me if they want something held in their area.”

  • The Quiz and Charity Auction is on Friday 1 December at Gordonton Hall, doors open 6:30pm. Teams can be between two and eight people, $25 entry fee.
