SH1B road work update

roadworksSafety improvement work on SH1B between Ballard Road and Taylor Road (excluding Gordonton Village) is progressing well and on track to be finished before winter sets in.

Over the next few weeks drainage works will be completed near Taylor Rd and road shoulders will be resealed, ahead of roadside safety barriers being installed next month. These barriers will help prevent people being killed or injured if their vehicle runs off the road, says NZ Transport Agency media manager Natalie Mankelow.

The NZTA is currently consulting with the community on installing rural intersection activated warning signs at 10 intersections around the country.

One of the intersections they are looking at is the Taylor Rd intersection on SH1B.

The electronic warning signs temporarily reduce the speed limit on busy state highway – usually from 100 km/h to 60km/hr or 70km/h – if a vehicle is turning into or out of a side road.
