Pick of the crop

Ah, there’s so many great things happening out and about – N8N shares highlights from around our area.

To begin, a special shout out and farewell to Rita Dewhurst from the Huimai Playcentre.

Rita first attended the playcentre when she was little, and joined as a parent in 2008,  says Megan Gaukrodger, who sent in this photo of the cake cutting.

“This was a time when most families were moving on, so Rita had to take on many of the roles to keep the centre running and raced through the education programme to get qualifications to ensure sessions could still run. This was quite an achievement as courses only ran in the evenings, once a year, so if you missed one you had to wait another year.

“In between all this she had three other children. She has held every role on the Huimai committee and held a financial position within the Waikato Playcentre association. Her knowledge about everything to do with playcentre is vast and we really miss having her around!”

Wet weather didn’t deter these keen athletes from Horsham Downs School’s running cross country run last week –

And earlier in the month was National Alpaca Day at Cornerstone Alpaca Stud.  Way too cute!

Finally, music was being made at Great Beginnings Gordonton – different lengths of bamboo sticks are great to bash, as are old pots.
