Pukemokemoke spreads its seeds further afield

It’s seed collecting time at Pukemokemoke, says our sister community website Tamahere Forum.

In this morning’s edtion of the on-line bulletin, Philippa Stevenson says the Tamahere Gully Care Groupis holding a seed collecting field trip to the reserve this Sunday (March 4), led by Wayne Bennett.

“This ecosourcing workshop is in conjunction with the Hamilton City Gully Seminar Series and the Tamahere Community Nursery and Gully Care Group. It will start at 1pm.”

She says the purpose of the trip is to become familiar with the area’s typical swamp forest and collect seeds to propagate for the restoration of this once common plant community.

Sunday was a very pleasant afternoon to meet up with Wayne Bennett and a few other keen people to collect seeds. I was really pleased to have had the information forwarded to me and of course it is easy for me to attend Pukemokemoke events being just up the road.
Wayne has a wealth of knowledge about trees, flaxes, smaller trees, and even though he is very knowledgeable and has vast experience he welcomed other peoples input and knowledge too. A great time to collect seeds and come under Wayne’s tutoring, thank you Wayne and also thank you Tamahere Forum and N8N. I really enjoyed those two hours, now to plant the seeds and hope they germinate!!
