Merry merry

A most Merry Christmas to you and yours from Number 8 Network.

Our resident pook Osborne has plenty to chew on to keep him out of mischief. But he’ll be back yarning before you know it.  As will Number 8 Network.

N8N admits to having just got back from a splendid time down south, all the way to Stewart Island in fact (where we spotted the Stewart Island kiwi one evening!)  Here’s a quick news round-up.

Chicken farm for Orini?
You may have heard about Mainland Poultry’s plans in Orini – a two-day hearing by Waikato District Council concluded after one day, with a final decision due in February 2019.  Opponents are to hand over a petition with more than 30,000 signatures to Council today.

The Aaron Hopa story
Gordonton’s Aaron Hopa died in a tragic diving accident off Whangamata on December 8 1998.  He left a legacy shaped by rugby, whānau, and aroha.   The Spinoff’s Ben Stanley tells a moving story of the greatest All Black not many people knew about.  Click here for the story.

Expressway woes
The link between northeast Hamilton and a new part of expressway could cost ratepayers $911,000 more than expected, due to funding problems leading to delays.  And more costs are coming.  Click here for the story on Stuff.

Xmas trees in Horsham Downs
There’s still time to get a Christmas tree.  And locals Pete and Rae Corin may just have just the one at their Christmas tree farm in Horsham Downs.   Click here to read an article on the couple which featured on Stuff recently.

And if you want to read N8N’s summer magazine Home Range, here’s the link.

Many thanks to everyone who took part in N8N’s news gathering this year; without you we couldn’t do what we do.   We’ll be taking a break over the festive season but if you want to share a great holiday photo or bits of news, get in touch!

Here’s to a wonderful New Year and relaxing holidays for all.
