Free fun at Woodlands’ Pioneer Fundays

Woodlands Estate are holding another Pioneer Fundays – an extravaganza of 19th Century delights and goings-on.

The events, held during school holidays, are real blasts from the past in the present, says Woodlands manager Kirstie Alley.

“More than 2000 people turned up at the first one last year to admire vintage machinery, pet donkeys, play old style games and hunt for gnomes on the garden trail.”

The Vintage Machinery Club will be back, there will be alpacas to admire and ponies to ride.  Activities include corn shuckling, butter churning, and Sam and his farmyard friends (2nd and 3rd only).  On the last day family fun outdoor race games will be held.

There will also be a coconut shy and olde style games to play with Lord and Lady Black over the three days.

Pioneer Fundays kicks off on Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 October, from 10am to 2pm at Woodland’s Estate, Whitikahu Rd, Gordonton.

Here are some pictorial highlights from previous events.

Lord & Lady Black, Number 8 Network’s Annette Taylor and David Riddell, were kept busy with a range of Victorian games over the three days.

And we can’t resist putting this one in!  Ellie telling Lady Black what she liked most about the day.  (The pony!)
