I’m changing! Hawk moth making moves

The beast in question

In breaking news today, the hawk moth caterpillar picked up by sharp-eyed Gary Workman has pupated.

The evening after the caterpillar was photographed, it half-buried itself in the soil and started to change colour from apple green to brown, starting from the head end.

After four or so days, it had transformed into the stunning creature pictured above.  Gary is going to pop it into an empty fish tank with some moist soil on the bottom of it and monitor progress.

Watch this space for news of its metamorphosis.  (But it could take a while, if overseas reports are anything to go by.)
