After the storm

Oh noes! Photo: Daniel Mills

THIS old willow at Hukanui Domain didn’t fare well in the violent storm that wreaked havoc around the country last week.

Caz says she was woken at 5am by an awful tearing sound and knew the willow had gone – “We’ll miss it when sitting on the front porch!”

First thing Thursday morning (after a breakfast cooked on our wood-burning stove, by candle light) Annette grabbed her gumboots and camera and had a quick look around.  This was new duck pond was on the side of Boyd Rd.

This tree on Piako Rd was also felled by the strong winds that saw tens of thousands without power.

By Thursday afternoon, swollen rivers and streams resulted in soggy paddocks – this was taken on Taylor Rd about 3 o’clock.  But the weather improved in time for the fieldays and folk were even able to garden on the weekend.
