Planting spree

A merry band of St Mary’s parishioners braved the elements and donned raincoats and gumboots to muck in on the upper slope of the Komakorau Stream, at the bottom of the church grounds for their Care of Creation Service.

This is just the beginning, says Rev David Smithson, to eventually plant out the whole slope in native cover down to the stream edge.

Housing New Zealand got wind of the event, and want to spend a day planting even more natives on the slope for their Day for a community. This will occur some time in October.
