We’re getting a newspaper!

A newspaper for our area.  Or maybe it’s a magazine.  Possibly a bit of both.

Community website Number 8 Network is launching a publication to connect people in the community north-east of Hamilton including Gordonton, Puketaha, Horsham Downs, Orini and Tauhei.

Editor Annette Taylor has been writing the stories of this area for the past eight years, since starting N8N with journalist daughter Iris Riddell.

“This is a fantastic next step in our development,” she says.  “A print publication will add to our ability to reach more people and will complement the website, email newsletter, Facebook and Instagram channels that we currently offer.”

Funding from Waikato District Council’s Discretionary and Funding Committee has enabled the publication to happen sooner than could have been achieved otherwise.

Most households will receive it in their letterbox, and it will be available free in cafes and local businesses.

The publication will feature the best of N8N’s content as well as new material and will include profiles on local personalities, news on great community events, issues of interest, history and cooking columns and much more.

“There is never, ever, a shortage of a good story to share.”

She also feels it will go some way towards replacing and honouring the Milky Way, which was the district’s newsletter for many years.  “It was an institution in its own right.”

This is not the first time N8N has gone to print.  “Back in 2015 we received funding from the Gordonton Country Market and printed seven issues of Number 8 News, which were available in cafes and local shops and were really well received.”

If you have are holding a community event,  working on a project or just have an interesting tale to tell, get in touch.  It’s good to share.

“And yes, the new publication will be taking advertising, so if you run a business and would like to be a founding advertiser, I’d love to hear from you.”

  • Number 8 Network thanks the Gordonton District Committee, which helps fund the web hosting and associated costs of running the website.  The website will continue to produce local stories, probably more than before!

What’s all the fuss about? Marley the office cat is the real force behind N8N.
