Stars on the rise at Woodlands

The talent was overflowing at Woodlands last night as a highly diverse group of contestants took to the stage to raise money for charity.

Woodlands Idol, which was a year in the planning, raised more than $4000 for the Child Cancer Foundation and for the development and maintenance of Woodlands.

It was full capacity as guests settled into an evening’s entertainment which included original composition, traditional Maori songs, musical theatre, light opera, instrumental comedy, and concluding with a rendition of the National Anthem in which the whole room took part.

First prize went to Dylan Kimpton for his keyboard-based comedy routine, climaxing with his version of Igudesman and Joo’s Rachmaninov Had Big Hands, ably assisted by Josh.

Madison Nonoa took second prize with an exquisite piece from HMS Pinafore and Fiona McIntyre came third with a tune from Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.  All three showed a stunning level of talent and it couldn’t have been easy for the judges to pick among them.

The wine flowed, the food was abundant and delicious and all in a good cause.  Well done to Judy Cole and the organising committee.
