Donkey fundraiser brings in the crowds

Jenny and Sunlight enjoy some shade...

It was all go at the Awapuni Donkey Stud this weekend – Jenny Clausen said the cars kept rolling up for the Family Fun Day

For many years now they’ve held an annual fundraiser at the farm on Whitikahu Rd, Gordonton.  This year’s proceeds – $5205 – are going to the Westpac Waikato Air Ambulance.

“Now I will be on the lookout for another worthy cause for next year!”

Children got to ride donkeys, parents could amble around the garden, and all could enjoy the ponies, goats, kumekune pigs, ducks and new baby foals.

There’s now about 30 donkeys, Jenny says, from miniatures to mammoths.  “The mammoths are the really big ones we’ve imported from America.  And the miniatures were imported by friends, and bred.  We’ve also got English type and dark chocolate types.”

Last year about $6000 was raised for Waikato Hospital’s children’s emergency department, and the years before that, for Hospice and the hydrotherapy pool.

“It makes a good day out, and is a nice way to help a good cause.”
