Claudia’s cup runneth over

Claudia Aalderink enjoys a nice cuppa.  For the last three months the Horsham Downs’ artist/photographer has been working away at a secret project – unveiled now at the Hamilton Arts Festival.

She has constructed a huge cup and saucer, using corokia hedge clippings (sourced from Gordonton, by the way!) and inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s Mad Hatter Tea Party.

In 2012 Claudia started exploring environmental artwork and sculptures using recycled material through her BMA study at Wintec.  This resulted in Cornucopia, a well-received installation at the city campus,

“Afterwards I was left with all this material and my tutor encouraged me to send a proposal to the Hamilton Gardens for a possible work, hoping it could be placed as a feature.”

She says the large scale of the work made her feel like a child again and feedback has been great.  “That’s what I love about creating art and even on a larger scale; the amazement on people’s faces is priceless.”

Here are pics of the creating process – and do go see Claudia’s cup.  It can be found at the Lakeside Court, Hamilton Gardens, throughout the festival (15 Feb to 28.)  It’s always cuppa time!

      Thank you very much!
So does the rest of Hamilton apparently and we had to put a ribbon around it in order to keep it nice and in one piece till the end of the festival. That way everyone can enjoy it!

This is fabulous – it looks so effortless just sitting there – am sure in deep contrast to all the hours of planning and design and prototypes that have gone on before hand. Well done.
