Keeping safe this Easter

HeatherEaster break is just around the corner, here’s some security tips from Heather and John at North Hamilton Neighbourhood Support.

There have been a few robberies in Hamilton public parks and walkways recently, during both the day and night, with victims being threatened for their valuables. NZ Police suggest carrying a cellphone and get in touch immediately if you feel concerned for your safety.

If you’re heading out of the area and intend staying in a motel – make sure your accommodation is secure both day and night. Thieves target motels as there are often good rewards to be gained.

And on the home front, make sure you let a neighbour know so they can keep an eye on the place. Have them park a car in your driveway, close the curtains at night, leave a light on for a few hours, hang the washing on the line… you know the drill. Make sure they have your contact details should they need to reach you.
