Work begins on Waring Rd

The Huntly section of the Waikato Expressway is starting to roll. Roving freerange reporter Chris Gardiner filed this report for Number 8 Network.

Establishment of the site offices and equipment yard were being cut into the lush pasture at the northern end of Waring Rd last week, at the site of the overbridge for Waring Road’s local traffic.

The dancing diggers were track rolling the metal pad of what will soon be the busy hub of this end of the project.

The $458 million, 15.2 kilometre, four-lane expressway section is to be completed in 2020.  This section will have four local road bridges and four bridges over streams.  For those who regularly use the road, the centre of the expressway is to the right of the depot as you look at it from the road.
