Anzac Day is fast approaching and once again a special service is to be held in Gordonton at 10am. But for those who are interested, there may be a Dawn meeting on the 25th.

Chris Norman would like to initiate a dawn gathering at the Cenotaph this Anzac Day.

“I’m thinking of an informal meeting where local people can come and share a time together to bring a prayer, a poem, a song or even their silence.”

The idea occurred to him recently. “Not long after moving to Gordonton, about five years ago, my daughter and a couple of her friends went down to the Cenotaph expecting to find a dawn parade service. As there wasn’t one we held a small service of our own.

“My oldest daughter and I have been attending dawn services in Cambridge, where we lived, since she was about three year’s old.  This service became quiet special to us as an opportunity to remember the lives sacrificed and to in some way honour them.”

He sees it as a good additiion to the 10 o’clock service, and people would be able to attend both.

The 10am service will include reading the Rolls of Honour, laying of wreaths, singing and prayers, followed by a community lunch in the hall.
