Pyramid plans for Horsham Downs

Horsham Downs will be famous for its 15m-high pyramid, if a dentist from Morrinsville has his way.

Dr Rakesh Jogia hopes to build the pyramid, along with a 400-seat auditorium, which will provide a ‘high-energy environment’ for meditators, reports Daniel Adams in the Waikato Times.

But city council staff oppose the plan, and neighbours are concerned that noise will intrude their peaceful rural properties.

“The Waikato District Council required the city’s views be sought because it falls within the district council’s urban expansion policy area but its staff have rejected the project.

Neighbour Jacqueline Downs, who has lived in her quiet Reynolds Rd home for six years, said traffic to the centre, at the rear of her property, was her biggest concern. She said while the meditation centre would probably be invisible from her property, she was concerned that traffic and other noise would travel to neighbouring properties.”

Adams says the pyramid’s 51 degree internal angles replicate the famed Great Pyramid of Giza and it is intended to be the venue for celebrations of events like Buddha’s birthday.
