Cuckoo?

Shining cuckooHere’s a chance to help a student and welcome in Spring. Michael Anderson, a postdoctoral fellow at Massey University, wants to find out more about when cuckoos arrive in New Zealand.

We have two species of these migrating birds; the long-tailed and shining cuckoo.

Michael says little is known about the migration patterns of either species, and is keen to find out more about the dates they arrive at each part of the country.

So – keep your ears and eyes open and if you hear or see one of these birds, please let Michael know.

This is the form to fill in for the long-tailed Cuckoo and use this for the shining cuckoo.

If you need help in identifying these birds, have a look at their pages on the Birds Online website,  (Long-tailed cuckoo here, Shining Cuckoo here).
