Birthday bash for St Mary’s 80th

St Mary's
Bishop Helen-Ann cuts the cake (baked by Sally-Anne Riddell)

St Mary’s Gordonton celebrated its 80th Anniversary on Sunday 2 March with a packed church service full of regular worshipers, well wishers, and people from the district who have had links with the church.

Those attending watched a presentation of the eight decades that St Mary’s has stood through, each decade showed pictures from world events, fashion, and events of the Christian world community.

A brief history of St Mary’s was given by Cilla Henry and Rev David Smithson.  One guest, Mr Martin, used to farm where the church now stands.

Bishop Helen-Ann preached and presided. It was followed by a wonderful pot luck lunch, and the kids had a well deserved swim.
