Local historic places in line for fund

Picture perfect at Woodlands Historic HomesteadThe Waikato District Council’s Heritage Assistance Fund, designed to conserve, restore and protect valued district heritage, is available to Gordonton residents.

The fund is available only for privately owned heritage items that are listed in the 2013 district plan, which includes several historic places or homes in Gordonton.

On the list and open to applications from the fund are the Gordonton War Memorial, St Mary’s Church, Woodlands Historic Homestead, the original herringbone cowshed at 1261 Gordonton Rd and the former Hukanui school and teacher’s house, also on Gordonton Rd.

Applications to the fund close on March 28. All applicants will be advised of the outcome in June and work must be undertaken before June 30 next year.
