Dairy staff training on offer

Vet workshopA one-day workshop sharing top tips on farm staff training is being held in Gordonton this June.

Topics include getting staff up to speed with the basics of calving, rearing, taking milk samples, lame cows and identifying cows in heat.

The Spring Farm Staff Training course is run by Anexa Animal Health, and is targeted at the introduction level for farm staff.

Held in both Morrinsville and Gordonton, it caters for those with several seasons experience through to new comers to the dairy industry. Participants are taught key skills and techniques needed during the busy calving and calf rearing period, including the correct use of veterinary products, treatment of scouring calves, what to do with a down cow and understanding mastitis.

Anexa run a series of other workshops, including one on Milk Quality which also introduces the Healthy Udder programme. Participants receive a certificate to keep with their training records.

The Spring Farm Staff Training course will be held in the Gordonton Hall on Thursday 18 June from 9am to 2.30pm.
