ANZIA trophies for 2014

ANZIA-trophies-2014-300x189The 22 finalists in six categories of the 2015 ANZIAs were announced yesterday by the organisers, the governing bodies of the internet in both countries, Internet NZ and auDA or the .au Domain Administration.

Number 8 Network is one of five finalists in the Leonie Dunbar Memorial Award for Community Websites, which carries a prize of $AU2500.

Announcing the finalists, the organisers said they were impressed by the outstanding quality across all categories and this year had received the largest number of entries in the award’s seven year history.

Number 8 Network’s sister site Tamahere Forum, run by Philippa Stevenson, is also a finalist in the community website category, as is Motueka Online run by a long time colleague of Stevenson’s, David Armstrong. Two Australian sites have also made the line-up, one from Bathurst and one from Oxley.

Tamahere Forum’ editor Philippa Stevenson said it was wonderful that community websites are getting recognition. “It’s particularly nice that I’m sharing the honour with two good friends who have also been serving their communities in the same way.”Annette Taylor was also utterly chuffed to have made the finals, and says she is in fine company.  “Community websites are all about people – N8N was set up to share the stories of people in our community, many have become good friends over the years.”

The Leonie Dunbar Memorial Award for Community Websites featured in the ANZIAs for the first time last year when it attracted the highest number of submissions of any category.

The full list of finalists is here.

The winners will be announced at a gala evening in Auckland on August 27.

Last year over 200 people attended the event, the biggest turnout in ANZIA history.
